Access of Course Materials

Affordable Course Materials for Everyone
Backpack

Since our founding in 2001, Ed Map has helped educational institutions reduce the costs of course materials while ensuring their students’ access to them — on or before the first day of class. Assuring that all students have access to affordable content by the time class begins should be a no-brainer, but that’s not what’s happening at most institutions today.

We all know the campus bookstore. The prices continue to rise year after year — and choices are limited. No digital. No OER. It’s not keeping up with the times. Cost-conscious students are faced with a choice: Buy an overpriced book or spend their limited dollars elsewhere, like on the open market. It’s a risk. There are no guarantees that the material is the right edition, or that it arrives on or before day one of class, or that a student even buys it at all!

The numbers make a compelling case. The affordability dilemma doesn’t add up for students or the institution. Consider:
  1. 35% of students take fewer courses due to the cost of required course materials.
  2. 26% of students earn a poor or failing grade due to not having the required course materials.
  3. 24% of students drop courses or withdraw due to the cost of required textbooks.

Begin the Journey to Student Success

Ed Map can solve the course materials affordability dilemma and support student success with our ALL IN MODEL® or AIM. AIM is the way to navigate the 21st century content landscape while:
  1. Aligning with your institution’s mission of offering your students a top-notch education
  2. Building a foundation to adopt engaging, low-cost content, including OER
  3. Making the shift toward digital course materials
  4. Holding the publishers to the absolute best price
  5. Providing your students up-to-date content already accounted for in their tuition or class fees
  6. Integrating materials fully into the learning environment for effortless accessibility
  7. Assuring your students have relevant and affordable course content on day one

That’s a great first step … to student success!

How Does AIM® Work?

AIM® is a services and platform framework to launch an all-inclusive digital access program at your institution that promotes student success.

  • Faculty or curriculum developers select course materials.
  • Ed Map assists institutions’ work with publishers to set ALL IN MODEL (AIM)® pricing, with the goal of obtaining the best possible price.
  • Ed Map assures that all content is available before the first day of class.
  • Students use OPENVUE® to access the course materials on their custom list and select options such as print-on-demand (POD) print companions.
  • Students may opt out if they wish to obtain materials independently.
  • Financial aid is applied or student accounts are charged after add/drop closes.

Lesson Learned

“We had essentially assumed we’d be continuing to use the traditional mark-up model because we didn’t know there was an alternative way of doing business. Not marking up the cost of content really made sense to us and will result in savings for our students — especially as we increase our digital options."
